Editorial Reviews. Gunnar Brune's Springs of Texas, first published privately Major and historical springs of Texas bookis a classic work of Texas natural history that provides the only thorough treatment of more than twenty-nine hundred springs in Texas counties.

The book also includes an in-depth discussion of the general characteristics of springs - their physical /5(4). Texas originally had major and historically significant springs, other than saline springs.

Of these, four were originally very large springs (over cubic feet per second flow); however, only two, Comal and San Marcos, remain in that class today.

Sixty-three springs, many with important historical backgrounds, have completely failed. The book presents the results of many years of extensive research conducted by Gunnar Brune until his passing cut short the completion of all the springs in Texas.

Each spring's location, historical flow rate, elevation, geological and habitat characteristic, as well as interesting historical anecdotes by local citizens about the springs are given.
